If 2020 taught us anything, it is that nothing is promised. This reality can be very scary or we can use it as an opportunity to wake up and be self-sufficient on a more basic level. The big house, fancy car, great job and lots of money is great, but we have seen how easy it is for all of that to be taken away in the blink of an eye. Then you are left with yourself, in your own skin. When you are stripped of all of those things, then what? All of a sudden, we see what is important and everything shifts. Suddenly people and things that were held in high regard, are not so important anymore and people and things that were taken for granted, become more important.
The word “apocalypse” keeps creeping up but I think the word has more of positive meaning. The end of the old world which was broken in many ways anyway and in with the new. So what does the new world look like? Well that depends on the individual. It can be chaos or calmness. Regardless of what is going on around you or with you, everyone has a choice of how to react. You can live in a constant state of anger and fear or take time to create a sacred space for yourself within where you feel safe, powerful, in control and happy. This doesn’t mean everything will be perfect, but you can always find something good comes out of something bad. If you invest in yourself by eating healthy, working out, feeding your mind good thoughts, and focusing on good deeds these are all things that make you feel good. If you feel good, you have better coping skills when the S hits the fan.
I think the big takeaway from this pandemic is to make sure you carve a sacred space for yourself and invest in yourself on all levels because at the end of the day this is what is most important. Many people will be overwhelmed even starting this but the best way to get going is to just start with what you have. On the most basic level breathing is what keeps us alive and ironically is one of the things that we take for granted every day and we were made very aware of this during the pandemic. A good way to start to center yourself is breathing exercises. If you wake up every day and spend a few minutes doing breathing exercises simply by taking a deep breath in through the nose and then slowly out of the mouth, this helps the oxygen flow, helps improve circulation, the immune system and will create a sense of calmness almost immediately. Building your immune system is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Eating the right foods, creating a stress-free life and taking supplements like acerola cherry powder and chlorophyll are a great start to improving your immune system. Doing some form of workout is important and even better if you do it by connecting with the earth like hiking or any form of outdoor exercise. Taking care of yourself spiritually is also very important. Whatever your beliefs are, connecting to them daily with prayer or affirmations keeps you in a good frame of mind. As far as your emotional wellbeing, focusing on good thoughts and living in a state of gratitude will do wonders for you. These are simple things that you can focus on to keep yourself balanced. Things will constantly change around you and you will lose track, but the goal is to always try to refocus.
Creating a comfortable living space is also very important. Keeping a clean and clutter free living space, clearing the energy in your home, having fresh flowers, having healthy foods on hand, listening to music you love, having books you love, hanging a piece of art that makes you smile, having a pet, and making sure that your space is safe and comfortable. Over the last 8 months many people spent a lot of time in their homes and these things really don’t cost much but have a profound impact on how you feel on a daily basis. These are simple things you can do immediately that can improve the quality of your life. 😊
